The Slots Bankroll
Your goal when playing slots should be to hit a jackpot of some kind. We know that the odds are against us of hitting the jackpot, but if we are to make money by playing the slots we have to go for the big score. To go for the big jackpots we need a good bankroll.
The amount of your bankroll is going to depend upon many factors, some of which you can control, others you cannot. There is no way of knowing how you are going to do at the slots in each session or what the payouts are likely to be. There are some people that have looked at some possible outcomes on certain slot machines and we will go with some of their figures playing .25 cent machines and at the full five coin amount. If you don’t already know this, you must play the maximum amount of coins every time to have the jackpot pay off. Let’s assume that you play for about 3 hours at the slots. Let’s say you get about 1,800 spins or so at a 95% or better returning machine. This many spins gives you as good as chance as any of hitting the jackpot. The figures by some studies have said that a $50 bankroll gives you a 77% chance of going broke in that time and a 2% chance of hitting the jackpot. A $100 bankroll will give you a 51% chance of going broke and a 3% chance of hitting the jackpot. A $200 bankroll gives you only an 11% chance of going broke and your chances go up to 4% for hitting the jackpot. If you go up to $300 your chances of going broke are almost non-existent in those 3 hours at 1% and the chances of hitting the jackpot remain at 4%. Let’s say you go even higher than that for a bankroll in those 3 hours. It really doesn’t matter very much. $300 is enough, although $400 gives you more of a safety net in that you almost never will go broke and officially your chances of hitting the jackpot go up to 5%. That is as good as it gets when playing the slots for chances of hitting the jackpot.
To have a decent shot at hitting the jackpot, and even that shot is small; you must have a bankroll of $300 or more for your session play. If you start with a $100 bankroll you chances of going broke are just too high. You want to stay in the game long enough to give yourself a chance to hit the bankroll. At $100 or less your chances just aren’t very good.
Playing the slots is fun, entertaining, and it can be exciting. To give yourself a chance at making the slots exciting though, you must have the bankroll. Don’t play short and deny yourself a shot at the big payoff.
